«Det starter alltid med en idé av en stemning eller en følelse. Et lite fragment av en melodi, en rytme, som tøyes og strekkes og utvikles til noe større. Av og til inspirert av teksten jeg har foran meg, som gir en assosiasjon, eller som oftest inspirert av en egen stemning musikken gir meg. Det starter alltid med en idé. En stemning. En følelse.»
Kunstneriske produksjoner
Å komponere musikk er en viktig del av Toves virke og identitet som musiker. Hun har mottatt flere større stipender fra blant annet Den Norske Komponistforening, Komponistenes Vederlagsfond, NOPA og Kulturrådet, og skriver musikk sammen med ulike tekstforfattere, artister, musikere og produsenter. Egne komposisjoner vil spilles inn og utgis på eget plateselskap, Emerald, etablert i 2022.
«For Me» (T: Brendan Graham/M: Tove Kragset) Sangen er tilegnet Oslo fagottkor og er en hyllest til inkludering og mangfold.
«St Sunniva»: nyskreven musikk til St Sunniva-festivalen i Bergen 2020 med tekster av bl.a. Brendan Graham. Konserten er et samarbeid med Bjørgvin Bispedømmeråd og Den Norske Ambassaden i Dublin.
«Fruen fra havet»: nyskreven musikk for strykekvartett, perkusjon og piano til teateroppsetningen ved Kilden Teater/Fjæreheia 2019.
«The Blue Wave»: nyskrevne sanger i samarbeid med tekstforfatter Brendan Graham til albuminnspilling med Helene Bøksle i Dublin 2018.
Kunstnerisk samarbeid
There always has seemed to me to be ‘something in the air’ between Norway and Ireland.
Maybe it’s our ‘shared’ history…when Vikings sailed up the River Liffey into the heart of Dublin. Maybe, being two sea-boarding countries, it is the spirit of our looking and sailing westward across vast oceans…into the future… but also into the mythological past.
For ‘west’ was where Tír na n-Óg – the Land of Eternal Youth – was; ‘west’ was where we could dance with The Blue Wave – connect with the Gods of the Wind and the Sun…in that otherworld, idir eatarthú, between life and death.
Whatever…when I am working with Tove…she seems, in the musical cloths she wraps around my wanderings and imaginings, to capture that ‘something-in-the-air’ between our two countries…and, in the mysterious marriage she weaves around my words with her music, to bring me there…
to the Great Northland…her country’
